ATTENDANCE

Absences & Tardies:

  • Call the school before 9:00 AM to report student illness and leave a message with the secretary.
  • Keep students home if they have Strep Throat, Influenza, Fever, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Pink Eye, or other serious communicable illnesses.
  • For absences longer than 3 days, a doctor’s note is required upon return.
  • Notify the school in advance for planned absences (e.g., funerals, medical appointments, vacations).
  • Ensure students arrive on time daily—excessive tardies may lead to unexcused absences.

  • Students leaving school after the 8:20 AM tardy bell must be checked out through the front office.
  • If a student arrives after 8:30 AM, a parent or guardian must sign them in at the front office.

We encourage you to contact the school if your child has excessive absences. In accordance with Utah law, we will take the following steps to keep you informed about your student’s attendance:

  • After 10 absences: A meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian to develop a plan to address the absences.
  • After 15 absences: Additional interventions will be implemented to support improved attendance.

Student Transportation & Parking Lot Guidelines

We encourage students who live nearby to walk or ride their bikes to school. This promotes healthy habits and helps reduce traffic congestion around the school.

If you are driving your student to school, please follow these important guidelines:

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

  • Bus Lane: This lane is for school buses and emergency vehicles only. Do not use it for drop-off, pick-up, or parking at any time.

  • Drop-Off (Morning): Pull forward to the crosswalk before letting students exit the vehicle. This helps maintain a safe and efficient flow of traffic.

  • Pick-Up (Afternoon): Park in a designated parking space and wait for your student to walk to your vehicle. Do not block traffic or stop in the driving lanes.

  • Crosswalks: A staff member will be present after school to assist students crossing to the opposite side of the parking lot. Everyone—students and adults—must use the crosswalk.
Do not walk through the middle of the parking lot.

Late Drop-Offs & Early Check-Outs

  • If your student is arriving late or needs to be checked out during the day, park in a designated space and walk your student into the building.
Do not use the bus lane for any reason.

Safety Reminder

  • Please drive slowly and with extreme caution in the parking lot at all times.
  • All students who walk and bike should use the walkway on 200 N and 400 E.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe!

Additional Information:  For the safety and security of all students, all parents and visitors must check in at the office before entering the building for any reason. This includes morning drop-off and pick-up.

Emergency Preparedness

Evacuation

In the event of an evacuation (such as a fire alarm or after an earthquake when it is deemed safe), all students will exit the building in an orderly manner and proceed to their designated areas on school grounds.

  • Teachers will bring the emergency bucket, be the last to leave the classroom, and close the door behind them.

  • Once outside, teachers will immediately take roll to ensure all students are accounted for.

  • If it is safe to return to the building, students will resume regular instruction.

  • If the building is unsafe to reenter, students will walk to the Rock Church located at 131 E 100 N.

No students will be released until they are signed out by a parent/guardian or a pre-approved emergency contact.

Lockdown

In the event of a threat or emergency (such as violence, a hostage situation, or other crisis), the school will initiate a lockdown to ensure student safety.

  • Teachers will lock classroom doors, cover windows, and move students away from doors and windows.

  • Students will remain in lockdown until it is deemed safe by authorities.

All students must be checked out by a parent/guardian or pre-approved emergency contact before being released.
